Microsoft to open ‘pop-up’ holiday stores in Natick, Braintree

On the heels of opening its first Bay State store in Boston last month, Microsoft Corp. announced today that it would roll out 32 temporary holiday stores at locations including the Natick Mall and South Shore Plaza in Braintree this fall.

The “pop-up” stores will allow customers to have hands-on experience with Microsoft products and services as they check items off their holiday shopping lists, according to the Redmond, Wash., software giant.

Micrsoft, which will soon launch Windows 8 and its Surface tablet, plans to announce details about the stores and additional locations in the coming weeks.

Microsoft opened its first permanent Massachusetts store at the Shops at Prudential Center on Aug. 23.
